Highly Anticipated Anime Film ‘Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night’ Set to Release in Indian Theaters on April 14, 2023 by PVR Pictures

PVR Pictures, a prominent film distribution company, has announced that the release of the highly anticipated anime film, Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night, in Indian theaters will now take place on April 14, 2023. This release was postponed from its initial date of February 10, 2023.

The second installment of the Sword Art Online film series opened in Japan on October 22, 2022, after facing a delay, and immediately secured the top spot at the box office in its opening weekend. As of December 6, 2022, the film has garnered an impressive cumulative total of 1,076,475,134 yen, equivalent to approximately US$7.97 million.

The film boasts a talented cast, including the return of familiar characters, as well as the introduction of new ones. Notably, Kaede Hondo lends her voice to the character of Liten, while Yūsuke Kobayashi portrays Morte.

The film is helmed by director Ayako Kohno, known for her work on popular anime titles such as Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic, High School Fleet, and The Seven Deadly Sins the Movie: Prisoners of the Sky. Kento Toya, who has previously worked on Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld and The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of The Commandments, is responsible for character design. Yasuyuki Kai serves as the action director, and Yuki Kajiura returns to compose the music. The theme song “Shinzо̄” (Heart) is performed by Eir Aoi.

Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night is the first film in the anime project and debuted in Japan in October 2021, where it achieved box office success in its opening weekend. The film has also been released in over 40 countries and territories worldwide. PVR Pictures previously released the film in India in February 2022, garnering attention from anime enthusiasts.

The film is based on Reki Kawahara’s popular Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series, which was launched in 2012 as a revised retelling of Kawahara’s original Sword Art Online novels. The story follows Kirito’s journey through the floating Aincrad castle, floor-by-floor, from the beginning. Yen Press is also publishing the Sword Art Online: Progressive novel series in English, along with two manga adaptations.
